Want to Become a Licensed Real Estate Agent? 4 Steps to Consider

People enter the field of real estate from different occupations or fields and at various stages of their lives. Everyone has a different reason for choosing it as their career. But a question is common to everyone - how will they become a real estate agent?

Here is the step by step procedure.

Step 1: Apply for a state approved 75 hour real estate pre licensing course. These pre licensing courses are offered in 2 ways -
•  In person - This course allows you to interact with the instructors and meet other students too.
•  Online - The online program consists of lessons and it gives you the option to take the course on your own time and at your own pace.

Step 2: Pass the school’s final exam
After completing the 75 hour course, the state requires that you take the real estate school exam. You can join the exam prep course for passing this test.

Step 3: Pass the NY State Exam
The State exam is a written exam based on the curriculum from the 75-hour real estate salesperson course.
•    Total number of questions are 75 multiple choice questions
•    Passing grade of 70%
•    You must complete the exam within 90 minutes

Step 4: Find a sponsoring broker and finalize the application
You can work under any of these types of brokers - residential sales, residential rentals, commercial sales or commercial leases.

As a real estate agent, you will have to handle office, paperwork, developing relationships, managing contacts, dealing with buyers & sellers etc. It also involves reaching out to local real estate agents & brokers to ask them question. Thus, this career requires a full commitment. So, make sure that you are prepared for it.
