A real estate agent is a rewarding and flexible occupation. But, to become an agent, the most important step is obtaining the license. Each state has different licensing laws and requirements that you should know about. While applying for a real estate license in New Jersey, make sure you thoroughly understand the licensing requirements to avoid any mistakes.

However, here are three basic steps to get a license in your state.

Pre and post licensing education

Every real estate school in NJoffers courses that covers essential topics of this field like listing & selling property, property valuation, mortgage training programs, and the law of agency. And, once you have obtained your license, continuing education courses will be required to keep your it active.

In New Jersey, a pre-licensing courses is usually of 75 hours. And you will need, 22.5 hours of continuing education courses after every 2 years.

Pass Licensing Exam

After taking the proper training, you will be ready for the licensing exam. To pass your exam, you should attend the classes and pass a course final exam. In most states, you must answer 70 to 75 % of the questions correctly. In New Jersey, the exam time is 1.5 hours, with 75 multiple choice questions on national & state real estate principles and laws.

The passing score should be 70 % on course and state exam.

Submit License Application

After passing the exam, you will have to submit a license application to your state’s real estate board and pay the required application fees. Your license will usually be valid for two to four years before you have to renew it.
